The Story Behind The Storyteller
For years, I thought I was simply helping. I didn’t realize I had been preparing. Preparing to sit with grief without rushing it. Preparing to honor memories with care. Preparing to transform stories into something families could carry forward. The further I looked back, the more I realized there had always been a thread connecting my love of words, my encounters with loss, and my reverence for remembrance. In many ways, ITEOMD didn’t begin when I started a business. It began years earlier.
I finally gave the calling a name.
My grandmother’s funeral, one month after publicly launching ITEOMD in June ‘25.
I thought I had more time to preserve her story. I didn’t.
Stories don’t always wait until we’re ready to tell them.
-
At ITEOMD, we believe every life deserves to be remembered with depth, dignity, and care.
We approach each story with compassion, curiosity, and reverence, taking the time to understand the person behind the dates, titles, and milestones.
Whether we are preserving a living legacy, supporting a family through recent loss, or revisiting stories long after time has passed, our goal remains the same:
To create narratives that sound like the people they honor and feel like the lives they represent.
-
We believe stories are among the most sacred things we leave behind. They shape memory, preserve legacy, and tell us not only what people did, but how they made us feel.
-
In The Event of My Demise was created from a simple belief:
Every life deserves more than dates on a page.
Stories become family history. They explain the laughter. The silence.
The recipes. The nicknames. The sacrifices no one saw.
Through obituary writing, legacy narratives, and memorial editorial services, our purpose is to help individuals and families preserve memories with depth, dignity, and care.
Because remembrance is more than an act of looking back.
It is an act of love.
Meet the Founder
My name is Shayna Cleopatra; a writer, poet, founder, and aspiring funeral director whose work sits at the intersection of memory, grief, and storytelling.
With a background in English Language & Literature and a lifelong reverence for remembrance, I created In The Event of My Demise to help individuals and families preserve what matters most: their stories.
Because a life is more than a timeline.
It’s love. It’s memory. It is impact.
And every life deserves to be remembered with depth, dignity, and humanity.
Thank you for being here.
Whatever brought you to this site, whether it be grief, curiosity, love, or remembrance.
I hope you leave knowing one thing:
Stories matter.
The ones we tell.
The ones we inherit.
And especially the ones we fight to remember.
It would be my honor to help preserve yours.
